Which AI model does the AI assistant use, and can I choose my own?

By default the assistant runs in agent mode (the Omni model), and you do not need to connect your own AI or LLM account. Agent mode uses multiple models behind the scenes and picks the best one for each task, because different models are better at different things. The model that designs a website (often a Claude model) can differ from the one that builds an automation, a follow-up sequence or a custom app. Agent mode is the only mode that can use all of the assistant's built-in Votel tools (388 of them), because that is what it is tested on.

There is also a model picker at the bottom of the assistant chat, where you can choose a specific model from OpenAI, Anthropic and other providers. A model you pick there runs outside agent mode, so it cannot use the built-in tools that build and change things in the platform. Use it for chatting, planning or general questions that are not about Votel. For example, work out the requirements for an app with a model you picked, then paste those requirements into agent mode so it does the building.

You can also connect your own outside AI, such as Claude or ChatGPT, to Votel through MCP.
